MONTES RODRIGUEZ, María Emilia. DO ADJECTIVES EXIST IN TIKUNA? (COLOMBIAN AMAZON REGION). Forma funcion, Santaf, de Bogot, D.C. [online]. 2016, vol.29, n.1, pp.11-16. ISSN 0120-338X. https://doi.org/10.15446/fyf.v29n1.58506.
Noun and verb are labels of word classes one can validly establish for the Tikuna language, even though the particular features of bound-nouns should be marked. One must also consider that some grammatical morphemes (e.g. verbs) can be attached to arguments to form predicates. Adjectives do not exist as an independent class, since adjectival notions are expressed by means of intransitive verbs. Under certain conditions, the root verbs can form words that fulfill functions typical of adjectives. We characterize here the problem of the adjective in Tikuna, together with some typology issues and case analyses by other authors who have worked on the same topic in languages of Colombia. The general framework is based on morphosyntactic (and semantic) criteria that help to establish lexical classes.
