Academic writing practices in university environments have a high potential both as a cognitive tool and a means to become a member of discourse communities. In this article I describe a group of texts written by students in the course Written Composition in English in the Bachelor of Foreign Languages Teaching at the Universidad del Valle during August-December, 2008.
