The reported speech, also known as referred or quoted speech, is a great interest topic in language studies. The objective of this article is to describe and analyze the syntactic- semantic mechanisms and the pragmatic-discursive functions, with which the Caldas coffee zone’s speakers build their conversational narratives: coming out with direct, indirect and free speech. The description and the analysis are reached thanks to a corpus formed by 36 conversational narratives. In the results, it is evinced that the frequency percentage of the direct speech is higher than the indirect speeches. Furthermore, it highlights the presence of the introductory citation markers: «dizque» and «esque». Finally, it is concluded that the present paper is the first reproduced speech study carried through the rural coffee-growing areas of Caldas’ department.
