KAMGUE, Ericbert Tambou. Human Despite the Illness: For a Humanization of Care Practices. Prax. filos. [online]. 2022, n.55, pp.115-130. Epub 26-Set-2022. ISSN 0120-4688. https://doi.org/10.25100/pfilosofica.v0i55.12405.
Illness is an ordeal for the patient, his relatives and the nursing staff. Its appearance in the human’s life is always a source of anguish for the patient and those around him. This anxiety is all the greater when the care is not effective or when the nursing staff does not assume its role: the patient's care. In the face of poor care, doubts may arise as to whether the patient belongs to the human community. The aim of this reflection is to show that the patient, despite the illness and the physical and psychological degradation, remains a human being in his own right because humanity or dignity is not ‘‘biodegradable’’. Illness can be seen as an ethical challenge to take care of the ‘‘capable man’’ who has become a ‘‘suffering man’’.
