ECHAVARRIA-RESTREPO, LUIS GUILLERMO et al. Experience in the surgical correction of anterior compartment prolapse using mesh multianchorage. CES Med. [online]. 2014, vol.28, n.2, pp.185-192. ISSN 0120-8705.

ABSTRACT Objective: to describe the success rate, complications and recurrences in women with genital prolapse of the anterior compartment who underwent surgery using macroporous monofilament mesh multianchorage. Methods: observational study of a cohort of 71 women with anterior compartment prolapse who were seized in the Clinica Universitaria Bolivariana and who underwent surgical repair with mesh multianchorage during the period 2008- 2011. Two postoperative assessments were performed by quantifying prolapse by the POP-Q International Classification (Pelvic Organ Prolapse Quantification System) at six months and one year after surgery. Results: an improvement was found genital prolapse POP-Q passing grade III and grade IV preoperative to grade I postoperative in 90.5% of patients; 2.9% of grade IV prolapse relapse was found. Nine patients had early complications. A recurrence rate of prolapse prior to six months of 4.2% and 9.9% to year evaluation was observed. Conclusions: We found decrease in the recurrence rate of anterior compartment prolapse in patients who were corrected mesh multianchorage. Subsequent studies are needed with better designs. Nowadays we can suggest that there is a trend to a better outcome with the use of mesh multianchorage correction of anterior compartment prolapse
