Mesenchymal stem cells (MSC’s) play an important role in regenerative medicine and tissue engineering, since these undifferentiated cells have the ability to self-renew and differentiate into several adult cell lineages with different, specialized functions. These cells have immunomodulation and homing capacities without the risk of generating teratomas, in contrast to embryonic stem cells or induced pluripotent stem cells. Several authors also highlight the regenerative capacity of products of these cells, known as secretome. These products play a very important role in healing processes and angiogenesis, making them ideal for application in therapies based on regeneration and repair of tissues and organs. The present review makes a recount of the state of the art on the processes of immodulation produced from these cell products.
