OLAYA, Natalia  e  JARAMILLO POSADA, Diana. Non invasive prenatal diagnosis: analysis of circulating fetal DNA and cells in maternal blood. Iatreia [online]. 2009, vol.22, n.4, pp.342-349. ISSN 0121-0793.

Non invasive prenatal diagnosis: analysis of circulating fetal DNA and cells in maternal blood Prenatal non invasive diagnosis by means of analyses of foetal DNA or cells circulating in maternal blood is one of the most promising areas of obstetrics. Among maternal diseases that could be diagnosed by these methods, or whose behaviour could be predicted, are preeclampsia, growth restriction and preterm labour. Some foetal conditions that could be detected are sex, chromosomal anomalies and single-gene defects. However, these are complex and expensive techniques that are not regularly performed in health care institutions. With this review we intend to provide the readers with up to date information on the main techniques available for the study of circulating foetal cells and DNA, and on their possible clinical applications. The review was based on a search for journals indexed up to 2008 in Pubmed, Scielo and Latindex. Especially relevant articles were chosen by the authors.

Palavras-chave : Foetal cells; Foetal DNA; Maternal blood; Prenatal diagnosis.
