Resumo

The article proposes to show some of the changes that the discipline of history has undergone in the past few decades. Three main influxes have affected the profession: the pressure exerted by contemporary society, the complex dialogue the discipline has maintained with the other social sciences, and the profound transformation of the world in recent decades. On the basis of these elements, the author holds that history should undertake a reorientation, inscribed within a renaissanee perspective.
