GARCES RETREPO, Mario Fernando; QUINTERO ANGEL, Andrés; CUELLAR, Natalia  e  GIRALDO, Alan. Mammal Diversity in an Area with Relicts of Dry Forest in the Mid-Magdalena Valley (Caldas, Colombia). rev. cienc. [online]. 2016, vol.20, n.spe, pp.147-160. ISSN 0121-1935.

Relicts of dry forest of the department of Caldas are affected by human activities such as mining and livestock. Due to the biological importance of these forests, the threats that they face and the little knowledge of its diversity, this study aimed to determine the diversity and abundance of mammals in a mosaic of dry forest in this department. Between October, 2013 and August, 2014, mammals were recorded through walks, Sherman traps, camera traps, mist nets, and hunting trails. Forty-nine species of mammals were recorded corresponding to nine orders and twenty-three families. These species correspond to near 49% of the species of mammals distributed in the region of the Valle Alto Del Magdalena (Upper-Magdalena River Valley) and the sampling correspond to near 84% of the expected species given the effort made. Three species are considered threatened national and internationally: Lontra longicaudis, Aotus cf griseimembra, Saguinus leucopus (Neotropical otter, gray-handed night monkey, white-footed tamarin). Additionally, Leopardus wiedii (the margay) is cataloged near threatened and the Proechimys chrysaeolus (Boyaca spiny rat) is considered interna- tionally data deficient. Relict of dry forests in this area has a high diversity of mammals and allow the settlement of some threatened species

Palavras-chave : Dry forest; fragmentation; habitat loss; threatened species.
