HERNANDEZ DELGADO, Esperanza. LA RESISTENCIA CIVIL DE LOS INDÍGENAS DEL CAUCA. Pap.polit. [online]. 2006, vol.11, n.1, pp.177-220. ISSN 0122-4409.
On the basis of their ancestral patterns of resistance, the indigenous people of Colombia in exemplary way have survived in the face of many different forms of violence. In recent decades they have become important social and political actors and are contributing to the peace process in the country. In the past thirty years, the native people of the Cauca region, who pioneered the Colombian indigenous movement, have committed themselves to various non-violent proposals and actions with regard to the restoration, strengthening and protection of their cultures, the exercising of autonomy, and the development of a political project which they call "the construction of a new country and world which is both possible and desirable". The civil resistance process of these peoples, their proposals and achievements, reveal important aspects of the prerequisites for peace and democracy, the benefits and demands of multiculturalism and examples of more humane and hopeful lifestyles.
