This article examines the main results of the thesis "Development of a cooperative relationship between Colombia and the European Union in the fight against illegal drug traffickng". It addresses the issue of international cooperation with respect to the control of illicit drugs from the perspective of the Theory of Complex Interdependence and, the European Union's response to the problem in light of its relations with Colombia and the drug problem. Therefore, it examines the current state of the global illegal drugs problem and it identifies the main strategies of Colombian and European Foreign Policy in relation to the drug problem and their cooperative relationship. Finally, it analyses the main strategies that the European Union has for the control illicit drugs focusing on the use of the new Generalised System of Preferences GSP Plus.
