CONSUEGRA SANFIEL, Alberto. Cuba: Diario de La Marina, the "missionaries of Mussolini" and the pro-Italian Cuban intellectuals during the second Italo-Abyssinian conflict (1935-1936). Mem. Soc. [online]. 2014, vol.18, n.36, pp.14-28. ISSN 0122-5197.

The Second Italo-Abyssinian conflict (1935-1936) triggered a strong social polarization worldwide. Inside and outside Africa, Abyssinia (now Ethiopia) found many expressions of support in defense of its freedom and displays of respect as a member state of the League of Nations since 1923, while in many places voices in favor of fascism supported armed aggression. This article is an outline of the main criteria used by a small group of Havanan Cuban intellectuals committed to the pro-fascist Italian emigration as it turned out to be the closest example -although not the most representative one- of the support Mussolini had in some American nations.

Palavras-chave : fascism; Italy; Abyssinia; Cuba.
