MUNOZ COGARIA, Andrés David. "People abandoned to the most degrading and criminal conduct": crimes against property and honor in the governship of Popayan (1750-1820). Hist. Caribe [online]. 2014, vol.9, n.24, pp.17-61. ISSN 0122-8803.

Based on court records filed in the Archivo Historico in Cali. This article examines infringements or punishable acts against property and honor in the Governship of Popayan, which were seen by the authorities as actions which damaged hierarchies and social order, both embodied by law and by the administration of justice. This explains the proliferation of criminal causes motivated by typical crimes committed by traditional societies, which can be found in the pursuit of cattle and property thieves, or to those who reviled the personal honor, especially pronounced in times of economic distress and political upheaval.

Palavras-chave : justice; criminal law; XVIII-XIX centuries; theft; honor; social order.
