PARRA-PULIDO, Javier Humberto; RODRIGUEZ-BARRETO, Lucía Carlota  e  CHINOME-TORRES, Julián David. Children neuropsychological assessment in preschoolers. Univ. Salud [online]. 2016, vol.18, n.1, pp.126-137. ISSN 0124-7107.

Introduction: The lack of neuropsychological intervention programs in preschool population is a pending task in Colombia, where the stage from 3 to 6 years old is a critical period in the development and acquisition of cognitive and social skills throughout the life cycle. Objective: To evaluate the neuropsychological maturity in children from 3 to 6 years old in a private school in the city of Tunja in order to design a program of neuropsychological correction. Materials and methods: An observational, descriptive and comparative study was conducted in 46 children with an average age of 57 months on the basis of the mental functions of the neurodevelopment proposed by Portellano, Mateos and Martínez and was evaluated using CUMANIN and a medical history. The data received a statistical treatment of calculating the averages and deviations from the average value of the test adapted to the Colombian context, an analysis using the Statistical T of Student with the results obtained in the application and a comparison of results by age group. Results: The results indicate lower scores in the age group of 55-78 months compared to the age group of 36 to 42 months. No significant differences by gender were found. 63% of the participants obtained scores below the expected in at least two of the areas evaluated. Conclusion: The data obtained justify the design of a neuropsychological correction program.
