Becoming a family caregiver of a child with cancer involves exercising a new role, which is built on interaction with significant others. Objective. Integrating findings from research that show that the caregiving of a child with cancer denotes a role in transition. Materials and methods. Integrative literature review with systematic literature search, critical appraisal of publications, integrating findings in Atlas Ti version 7 to constant comparison process; 46 articles were the input for the review. Results. The family caregiver of child with cancer goes through a transition from its role, which is of type health - disease; is characterized by a pattern related multiple, simultaneous and. Often the caregiver presents failure of their role during the transition, so to speak on the knowledge and preparation for the exercise of the role is key. Family caregivers that had received support for the exercise of their role, improve their problem solving skills and knowledge about care, which impacts on their quality of life, mood and health outcomes in their care recipient. Conclusion. The interventions are required to improve the conditions of transition in the role of caregiver of child with cancer, prepare the caregiver to exercise its role smugly improves their performance and their care recipient.
