GARZON B., José; LEMOS, Elkin  e  RIVAS, Romelia. Prevalence for Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Klebsiella oxytoca producers of Beta-lactamasas spectrum extended in the Hospital Occidente of Kennedy. Level III, Bogotá. Rev. Cienc. Salud [online]. 2004, vol.2, n.2, pp.124-138. ISSN 1692-7273.

The objective is estimate the prevalencia for Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Klebsiella oxytoca producers of Beta-lactamasas spectrum extended in the Hospital Occidente of Kennedy Level III. Bogotá. Methodology: They were analyzed in the Hospital West of Kennedy during the period understood among November 20 from the 2002 to the 30 September of the 2003, 3.574 isolates in which 897 stumps of Klebsiella pneumoniae were identified, Klebsiella oxytoca, and Escherichia c oli by means of panels of microdilución of the system of MicroScan Dried Gram Negative like test of Screening for germ identification and susceptibility to Beta-lactamasas of extended spectrum: Then one carries out test confirmatoria with system panels MicroScan Dried ESBL confirmation recommended for their use by National Committee for Clinical Laboratory Standards (NCCLS). Evaluating the concentration minimum inhibitory for ceftazidima and alone cefotaxima and in combination with sour clavulanico. Results: The results showed a combined prevalencia of germs producing Beta-lactamasas similar to 18.6% (interval of trust of 95%: 16.2%- 21.4%). The prevalencia for Escherichia coli was of 9.5%, Klebsiella pneumoniae 43.5%, and Klebsiella oxytoca 10.3%. The bacterial but high resistance indexes corresponded to ceftriaxona and ceftazidima. Conclusion: The study demonstrates a high prevalencia of Beta-lactamasas of spectrum extended in Gram-negative germs, probably for the excessive use of antibiotics Beta-lactamicos of wide spectrum. She also stands out the importance of the detection with tests of susceptibility and confirmation like support for the setting-up of control measures and of epidemic surveillance with the purpose of reducing indexes of emergent bacterial resistance.
