VANEGAS CHAMORRO, Marley; VILLICANA ORTIZ, Eunice  e  ARRIETA VIANA, Luis. Quantification and characterization of solar radiation at the department of La Guajira-Colombia by calculating atmospheric transmissivity. Prospect. [online]. 2015, vol.13, n.2, pp.54-63. ISSN 1692-8261.  https://doi.org/10.15665/rp.v13i2.487.

The Colombian government approved in May 2014 Law 1715, which promotes the "development and use of non-conventional energy sources (FNCE) in the national energy system, mainly those that are renewable. The marked FNCE need to integrate the national energy system requires the quantification and characterization of the incident radiation in northern Colombia, specifically in the department of La Guajira, which led to a more specific study where different geometric, geographical, astronomical, physical and meteorological variables types were evaluated. This paper presents an analysis of the quantification and characterization of solar radiation from the study of meteorological data provided by the Institute of Hydrology, Meteorology and Environmental Studies of Colombia (IDEAM) from different stations in the department of La Guajira with climate records with more than five years and evaluated through the model of Bird and Hulstrom. From the results obtained from this study, areas of the department of La Guajira with the greatest potential for development of different solar technologies were identified.
