AMAYA COCUNUBO, Iván Fernando; DUQUE CAJAMARCA, Patricia; GOMEZ VERANO, Luz Elena  e  SAAVEDRA GUZMAN, Lola Rosalía. Social Loneliness Among Elderly People in the City of Bogotá. Tabula Rasa [online]. 2022, n.44, pp.303-323.  Epub 31-Ago-2022. ISSN 1794-2489.  https://doi.org/10.25058/20112742.n44.12.

This article aims to establish the level of social loneliness among 242 elderly people in the city of Bogotá, (97 institutionalized and 145 non institutionalized) throughout 2020 and 2021. A descriptive-correlational study was carried out, using the social loneliness Este II (in-depth study of social loneliness) Scale, which is made up by 15 items measuring three factors: social support, use of technology, and social engagement. Findings allow to identify a moderate association between demographic variables (gender, marital status, schooling, age) and the social loneliness level. Likewise, findings establish a moderate association between the levels of social loneliness and the aged person being institutionalized or not. Findings show some differences in the social isolation experience between the two target groups: institutionalized older people feel less social support, lesser use of technology, and reduced social engagement compared with non-institutionalized older people.

Palavras-chave : social loneliness; older people; institutionalized older people; non-institutionalized; Este II scale.
