GIRALDO DIAZ, Reinaldo; QUICENO MARTINEZ, Álvaro e VALENCIA TRUJILLO, Francis Liliana. An ethical solution to the current environmental crisis. Entramado [online]. 2011, vol.7, n.1, pp.148-158. ISSN 1900-3803.
The primary purpose of this research is to reflect on the current environmental crisis, which is framed in the context of two major problems faced by humankind today; namely, an unquestioned search for economic growth and an ecological crisis. Before writing this paper, a thorough bibliographic review was conducted. As a result, it is evident that the current environmental crisis is part of a crisis of the civilizing process to which humankind as a whole is subject. It is also observed that a solution to this crisis is not legal, scientific, or technological, but rather ethical and political in nature. In other words, it is linked to the ways and manners in which man should behave and assert his place in the world. It is only when this stated aspect is understood that one can come to think about the advent and establishment of a more humane relationship between people and our planet Earth. Therefore, this paper discusses concerns that stem from the problems which have arisen out of the relationship between man and nature, because it has been assumed to be a one-dimensional relationship - and this has led us to believe that we are owners and possessors. The findings of this research enable us to draw the conclusion that we can establish alternative ways to live and thrive in the world if we adopt a different world view, one that does not subjugate nature to capital value.
