JARAMILLO, Jesús. "This is Chorro": Masculine Identifications and Childhood Learning Experiences in Urban Contexts of Argentina. Antipod. Rev. Antropol. Arqueol. [online]. 2015, n.23, pp.113-128. ISSN 1900-5407.  https://doi.org/10.7440/antipoda23.2015.06.

The article analyzes the gender identifications carried out by a group of young boys who live in the city of Neuquén, in the province of the same name, situated in the north of the Argentine Patagonia. For this purpose, I have collected information on theft-related neighborhood practices involving children in collaboration with whom I did the fieldwork. I later focused the analysis on an incident with Alejandro, a member who was expelled from the group for stealing a box of markers. The ethnographic account of these events seem to indicate that the relationships and the forms of perception established with choreo, far from being a moral failing, respond instead to a child’s learning experience linked to processes of identifying with masculinity, with organizing principles in group life that have defined forms of prestige and respect within the context of the neighborhood.

Palavras-chave : Masculine identifications; learning; socialization; ethnography with children; urban contexts.
