In this work social mobility in the department of Cordoba in 2003 and 1996 is examined, specially in the urban zones. The phenomenon is analyzed from the educative and occupational perspective, and relations between the educative level and the condition of poverty settle down, emphasizing in the intergenerational transmission of the same one from the education of the head of the home. The document also explores the relations between the labor patterns of economic development of the department, markets and the structure of opportunities. Mobility matrices are constructed, and they are used you will climb to construct indicators that complement the analysis of the asymmetries between the different social groups.Was evidence of absolute and relative mobility in Cordoba, which means that the children have discharge probability of surpassing to the parents in a same generation; nevertheless, the gains in mobility appear in the smaller levels of education to basic the educative capital (12 years), and therefore, can be considered low and insufficient to reduce the intergenerational poverty as a result of the restrictions to the human accumulation of capital.
