CASTILLO-NINO, Joseph Vicent; CASTELLANOS-BAUTISTA, Diana Marcela  e  BENAVIDES-CASTRO, Cristian Camilo. Capitalist expansion in San Alberto, Cesar: oil palm, transformation of work and paramilitarism (1960-2000). Rev. eleuthera [online]. 2022, vol.24, n.1, pp.35-55.  Epub 08-Jul-2022. Objective.

Identify the process of capitalist expansion in San Alberto, Cesar.

Methodology.

Qualitative research with a historical memory approach with inhabitants of the region and former trade unionists.

Results.

The capitalist expansion in San Alberto is framed in violent action, the dispossession of land from settlers-peasants for the implementation of an agro-industrial model of oil palm cultivation, where paramilitaries have been a key actor since they have carried out violent practices against Political-worker representations that claim their labor rights before the Indupalma company, considering them as supporters of subversive groups.

Conclusions.

The armed social conflict has served as a context for the expansion of agro-industrial crops in southern Cesar, a direct relationship between capital and violence.

Palavras-chave : Capitalism; monoculture; oil palm; paramilitarism; historical memory.
