VESGA, Daniela Alvarado  e  SALCEDO, Yury Tatiana Granja. Lipid supplementation for the production of bovine meat in feedlots. rev. colombiana cienc. anim. Recia [online]. 2021, vol.13, n.2, pp.62-71.  Epub 14-Fev-2023. ISSN 2027-4297.  https://doi.org/10.24188/recia.v13.n2.2021.770.

Ruminants intake reduced amounts of lipids in diets, thus limiting productive performances, so increasing their concentrations in the diet allows various benefits such as greater energy availability, better productive level, use of area and nutritional quality of products such as meat and milk. In cattle livestock, the energy requirements are higher and the lipids are extremely rich source of energy, help to better weight performance and the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins, however, it can trigger alterations in the population and ruminal fermentation. The aim of this review was to discuss the effects of lipid supplementation on ruminal metabolism and the microorganisms that inhabit that ecosystem in feedlot meat production. Research suggests that adding lipids improves meat productivity and quality, which is important for food security. Furthermore, the evaluation of ruminal metabolism with lipid diets and their associations makes it possible to explore improvements in their composition, for better productive benefits and thus contribute to protein demands.
