The constant evolution of technologies has influenced educational systems around the world, forcing teachers to rapidly develop new skills in order to meet these challenges. The aim of this study is to determine the level of digital competencies of the professors at the Universidad de los Llanos (Villavicencio, Colombia) and analyze the factors that influence their adoption of information and communication technologies. This study used a methodology that mixes quantitative and qualitative approaches. A test to diagnose the professors’ teaching competencies in digital knowledge was administered in the first semester of 2021. The sample included 180 professors from five faculties. Their digital competencies were analyzed in four dimensions: (1) information, (2) communication and collaboration, (3) use of digital devices and tools, and (4) content creation. The results show that these professors present a medium to medium-high level of adoption in all dimensions, with content creation obtaining the lowest score. In conclusion, higher education institutions should implement new measures to strengthen the adoption of digital competencies and adapt to new ways of teaching and learning.
