This article discusses early childhood rearing and care in the framework of the family; the study reveals the dynamics of intergenerational links through the participation of the grandparents. Giving support and attention at specific moments is not the same as assuming the obligation of rearing. Between normatization (central participation) and flexibility (peripheral participation) that orient the relationships and the bonds between grandparents and their grandchildren, we see that the grandparents' spoiling of the children is an emotional compensation for a prior parenting experience.
