TORRES-PABON, Giselle. Karl Marx and Food Consumption Analysis: A Theoretical Perspective. Ens. Econ. [online]. 2020, vol.30, n.56, pp.31-52. ISSN 0121-117X. https://doi.org/10.15446/ede.v30n56.82980.
The article aims to present what constitutes Karl Marx's contribution to the analysis of food consumption. It has four parts: 1) an explanation of Marx's "human being"; 2) an examination of the "man-machine" concept, or what seems to be similar, humans turned into workers; 3) the author's different contributions to the analysis of food consumption 4) some conclusions. The central thesis of this article is: for Marx, food consumption becomes a priority issue in the worker class, and for that reason, Marx developed extensive food consumption analysis in his theory. As conclusions, we propose that the author discusses functional, social, economic, and political aspects of food consumption in households; having as a starting point a philosophical perspective, which is enriched by his encounter with political economy. His analytical contributions invite us to think -in depth- about food consumption in households, an activity sometimes conceived as simple, but which is far from it.
