Objectives: To establish the effi ciency of analytical psychotherapy as a therapeutic category derived from psychoanalysis and used for treating some psychic disorders. To stimulate research through registered sources and to favor the development of this kind of investigations in our fi eld. Method: This updated text revises investigations of the results from applying theses type of therapies, focusing on those countries that have shown a larger experience on this kind of works (Sweden and Germany) and using empirical methods as well as random control. These works have a suffi cient number of patients, something that allows reaching valid generalizations. Results: The reviewed works evidence that analytical psychotherapies are effective in producing favorable and sustained modifi cations in symptomathology and mental suffering. This change is possible under the following conditions: appropriate selection of patients and therapists, and treatment compliance. Conclusion: Analytical psychotherapy is an effective treatment when used under the cited conditions.
