ESTIVILL, Daniel. On Sacred Contemporary Architecture. Cuest. teol. [online]. 2014, vol.41, n.95, pp.41-74. ISSN 0120-131X.
According to the point of view of experts and believers a beautiful, functional and symbolically efficient building as a model of an ideal building for Christian worship is not found within the horizon of sacred contemporary architecture. The origin of such a phenomenon should not be looked for in the continuous development of architecture, but in the liturgical doctrine that inspires the idea of the new churches. Bearing this in mind, the aim of the paper is to focus our attention on the consequences arisen from one of the most significant changes in the post-conciliar liturgical reform: the orientation of the altar towards people. Because of that, such considerations about the location of the tabernacle and the relation between the liturgical iconography and the architectonical space are proposed. Therefore, the purpose is to show the inconsistencies between some of the post-conciliar regulations and what had been established by the Council. In addition, the paper highlights that the desired model may only emerge as a result from precise orientations in the subject of sacred architecture, which have as grounds the interpretation of the conciliar documents according to the hermeneutics of the reform within continuity.
