Muscle strength is an important physical quality in the development of the basic activities of the human beings even though it has been one of the items little worked among, the population at cardiovascular risk, due to the fact that there are no clear concepts concerning the physiological effects obtained, these effects have always been a matter of discussion and of different opinions for many researchers. The objective of this article is to clearly show the physiological effects achieved by strength training, through a systematic review. 54 articles of different databases were reviewed in order to consider the different conceptualizations carried out by those authors who have been dedicated to the study of this physical quality. These authors took into account aspects such as muscle strength training and the benefits obtained by it, with special emphasis in the cardiovascular system from a hemodynamic point of view at the metabolic system level. Variables such as metabolic rate, insulin sensitivity, and lipid profile were analyzed, in order to recognize the physiological basis that may further facilitate its use as a tool that may favor not only the return of the individual to functionality, but that may also concurrently reduce those indexes generators of pathologies considered as triggers of cardiovascular risks, in people at cardiovascular risk. They conclude that to make the information more representative, it is important to encourage researchers in conducting further applicable studies that may show that muscle strength training contributes in the reduction of cardiovascular risk factors and that although it reduces them in a slower way compared to the aerobic training, it is equally favorable.
