HOYOS, Diana  e  DIAS, Lucimar. Taxonomic contribution to the Chironominae subfamily in Caldas: new records, taxonomic keys, and diagnosis. Rev. acad. colomb. cienc. exact. fis. nat. [online]. 2020, vol.44, n.171, pp.507-521.  Epub 11-Jun-2021. ISSN 0370-3908.  https://doi.org/10.18257/raccefyn.1184.

Chironomidae is a family of aquatic flies with a wide global distribution, which constitutes the most abundant group of insects in freshwater ecosystems. The family has 11 subfamilies worldwide, of which five are registered in Colombia, among them the Chironominae, one of the most diverse of the group. The immature stages of the family have been used as bioindicators of contamination, however, a significant obstacle for the improvement of ecological research using this group is its complicated taxonomy, as well as the lack of inventories and regional taxonomic keys. In this context, we present here the first generic taxonomic key of Chironominae for the department of Caldas accompanied by the diagnosis and illustrative images of the documented genera. We also conducted a review of the literature reporting the subfamiliy for Caldas and the slide-mounting of the cephalic capsule of the larvae deposited in the Entomological Collection of the Biology Program of the University of Caldas (CEBUC) from different tributaries of the Chinchiná River basin. We found nine genera: Polypedilum, Rheotanytarsus, Chironomus, Endotribelos, Genus A, Paracladopelma, Paratanytarsus, Riethia, and Tanytarsus, of which the last seven are registered for the first time in Caldas.
