HERNANDEZ CORDOBA, Ángela. La familia como unidad de supervivencia, de sentido y de cambio en las intervenciones psicosociales: intenciones y realidades. Rev.latinoam.cienc.soc.niñez juv [online]. 2005, vol.3, n.1, pp.57-71. ISSN 1692-715X.
The purpose of this essay is to invite reflection on the consequences of considering the family as a unit of change in the various social institutions which serve it. The family is an ecosystemic unit that creates solidarities of destiny in time and space. It operates through rituals, myths and epistemes, which organize themselves in the interplay of phylogenetic, ontogenetic and culture-generating processes. Despite the intention of working with the family, there is a predominance of individual-oriented interventions in the fields of health, education, psycho-legal and socio-legal intervention. Instead of attributing problems to the interactions, they are attributed to the bearers of difficulties, to whom specific roles are assigned: in the health sector, that of the sick person; in education, that of the child maladapted to school environment; in the psycho-legal care, those of victim and victimary. The fact that change arising from individual and sequential attention of family members is different from that generated by synergistic system effects is ignored. Therefore, it is suggested that professional and institutional practices are reexamined in order to implement interventions with the family as a unit of survival, evolution and change. Only then will it be possible to simultaneously achieve social and ecosystemic responsibility and individual liberation.
