The previous two government administrations in Mexico were characterized by the generation of unprecedented violent environments, being the crime of disappearance one of the most serious expressions of this violence, due to the complexity of its implications as well as its alarming proliferation, registering more than 85 thousand missing people. Based on a qualitative study, this article presents an analysis that aims to discover the main reconfigurations that have occurred in families affected by the disappearance of one or more members in Tamaulipas, one of the states that has suffered the most from this crime in recent years. Among the main findings, the vulnerability that occurred in the Tamaulipas territory, the multiple consequences that the disappearance of a loved one causes on families, and the permanence of vulnerability due to the continuity of scenarios of violence and impunity are exposed.
