CUADRO, Mariela. THE GULF RELATIONS AFTER THE "ARAB SPRING" AND ITS IMPACT IN THE REGION. rev.relac.int.estrateg.segur. [online]. 2016, vol.11, n.2, pp.111-135. ISSN 1909-3063.  https://doi.org/10.18359/ries.1873.

The "Arab Spring" has not only had local consequences, shaking the directly affected countries, but also has impacted on regional relations. In this context, Saudi Arabia, UAE and Qatar were protagonists of a deep regional dispute over the role of political Islam, particularly that of the Muslim Brotherhood. The article wonders about the conditions of possibility and effects of this dispute, intending to carry out an exploratory revision of the post-Arab Spring conflicts through a non-sectarian reading. Thus, in the context of the intensification of interventionism in international politics, the absence of a security community among the countries analyzed has led them to resolve their conflict through proxy wars in different national settings. In them, Doha supported the various branches of the aforementioned group, while Riyadh and Abu Dhabi followed suit with the forces opposing it. The article concludes that the dispute between these countries contributed to the exacerbation and the deepening of the various conflicts in the countries affected by the uprisings.

Palavras-chave : Muslim Brotherhood; proxy Wars; Qatar; Saudi Arabia.
