RODRIGUEZ, Sergio. Undecided characters: Discourse, identity and narrative uncertainty. Hallazgos [online]. 2014, vol.11, n.22, pp.41-49. ISSN 1794-3841. https://doi.org/10.15332/s1794-3841.2014.0022.02.
Supported in the idea that character's identities in narrations are discourse phenomena, this article has the purpose to explain how those identities can become fuzzy and uncertain, and how that uncertainty may have semiotic results that, in some occasions, are used advantageously to favor the style and to potentiate the meaning of a narration. First, there is made an explanation of identity as a discourse construction; namely, a public phenomena, a partial and edited construction that is interpreted according to particular purposes and specific situations by agents that want to understand and obtain coherent meaning from a narration. Later it is explained how can exist cases of uncertain or fuzzy identities, when the identification and the coherent signification of characters is made difficult, and there are shown examples of how that uncertainty can be useful in story making.
