CARRENO SAYAGO, Uriel Fernando; PEREZ, Juan José; COTE MONTANEZ, Deysi  e  AGATON, Adolfo León. Modeling of an activated muds system for the leather sector in San Benito, Bogotá. Rev. P+L [online]. 2016, vol.11, n.2, pp.9-21. ISSN 1909-0455.  https://doi.org/10.22507/pml.v11n2a1.

ABSTRACT Introduction The organic pollution caused by fat and fur remains, among other products derived from leather production, affect water ecosystems by bringing the eutrophication phenomenon, stinking odors and the plugging of pipelines due to the accumulation of fat, among other elements. Objetive Using the high organic load and the presence of microorganisms, the objective proposed was the design and the implementation of an activated muds system for this treatment, with a sedimentation system of the hive type, and with the mud recirculation, and the like, for waste waters from the leather production. Where the contaminating load is extreme and has BOD levels of 1350 mg/L, the oxygenation of this system is constant to achieve an optimal degree in the treatment. Materials and methods By means of a model, the constants of cell death and microbial growth were determined for the values considered in the literature to design an adequate treatment for waste waters from leather industries. Another objective was the creation of a representative model of the system, taking into account the concentrations of microorganisms in the stream and in the re-circulation of microorganisms in the treatment system with significant values for such treatment. The waters were characterized for the mass balances with representative values. Results A probabilistic reliability model was also proposed with the data, the best quality criteria were established. Conclusion A reliability of this system was obtained with different reliability distributions.
