PINILLA, Rafael Orlando et al. Gastric trichobezoar, literature review and case presentation. rev. colomb. cir. [online]. 2016, vol.31, n.1, pp.44-49. ISSN 2011-7582.
Tricobezoar is not a common disease. Gastric bezoars can appear in normal stomachs as the result of ingestion of objects or foodstuff that do not cross the pylorus. Currently, most of them happen as complication of gastric surgery where there are an abnormal function of the pylorus and hypoperistalsis. Tricobezoar should be suspected in young women coming with a mobile and firm mass in the epigastrium. Patients may remain asymptomatic for months or years. The appearing of the symptoms could be insidious, or dramatically acute. Although this entity can be diagnosed by images, endoscopy gives an efficient diagnosis. Some bezoars could be managed by endoscopy but surgical treatment is indicated in those of larger volume or which become complicated. Once treated, emphasis should be made on prevention of recurrence. We report the case of a patient with a gastric complicated tricobezoar, with antecedent of gastric surgery for the same cause while in pediatric age, which requires new surgery for recurrence, without psychiatric dysfunctions.
