Abstract

Currently, library management is marked by the incorporation of managerial tools originated in the business world and enables to rigorously control and evaluate its administrative process. The Balanced Scorecard is one of those tools and considering its potential, the article has the purpose of analyzing its application in the library environment from its four perspectives: client, financial, internal processes, and learning, and growth. At the end, it shows its usefulness for the information units, by constituting a management model with strategic and integral vision, mainly based on the service and its impact on society; it enables the achievement of long-term strategic objectives and the control of the cause-effect relations between objectives and indicators for each one of those perspectives.
