Abstract
The Andes mountain range is the longest mountain range in the world, directly influencing the territory in aspects such as climate, communications or social relations, being represented on multiple occasions in audiovisual productions. The article investigates the role of geography in the development of cinematographic narratives that have the Andes as their frame, revealing geographical imaginaries that are projected through cinema. The research is analytical-descriptive in nature, with a quantitative methodology and the use of the technique of scientific observation. A total of 21 films were selected in which the Andes are protagonists, analyzing the geographical phenomena existing in this geographical space. The results show the existence of numerous films in which the plot takes place in the Andes where the viewer can contemplate both physical (climate change or environmental conflicts) and human (economic activities or urban planning) geographical phenomena. The relevance of this study lies in the fact that to date no research has been carried out on the geography of the mountain range seen through the cinema. Likewise, this work can open new similar investigations for other geographical spaces.
