Abstract
VARGAS RODRIGUEZ, Leidy Yemile; RINCON MONGUI, Jairo Andrés; QUEMBA MESA, Mónica Paola and CASTANEDA FRANCO, Erika Lorena. Cross-cultural adaptation of the City of Hope-Quality of Life-Ostomy instrument. av.enferm. [online]. 2023, vol.41, n.2, 109118. Epub Sep 08, 2023. ISSN 0121-4500. https://doi.org/10.15446/av.enferm.v41n2.109118.
Objective
To develop the transcultural adaptation of the City of Hope-Quality of Life-Ostomy Questionnaire (COH-QOL-OQ) to the Spanish spoken in Colombia.
Materials and method
Methodological study of cross-cultural adaptation, developed in 5 stages: translation, synthesis, back-translation, pretest, and delivery. Each of these phases was audited by a committee of experts, which consolidated the different versions and components of this instrument and generated consensus in the face of discrepancies.
Results
The translation and back-translation of the COH-QOL-OQ instrument followed the methodological steps related to the equivalences of the original instrument. Twelve patients with ostomies participated in the pilot test, which allowed obtaining a concordance and reliability in the preliminary test with a Fleiss Kappa value of 0.7727, a CVR value between 0.70 and 1, and a Cronbach's alpha of 0.7992, which shows evidence of validity and internal consistency for the underlying instrument.
Conclusions
A translated and cross-culturally adapted version of the COH-QOL-OQ instrument that preserved the semantic, idiomatic, experimental, and conceptual equivalences of the checklist of the original version was developed, thus providing an instrument with evidence of validity and internal consistency that can used in research studies on the quality of life of ostomy patients.
