Abstract

ESPITIA DE LA HOZ, Franklin José  and  OROZCO-GALLEGO, Hoover. Pathophysiology of sexual desire disorder during climacteric. Revista médica Risaralda [online]. 2018, vol.24, n.1, pp.58-60. ISSN 0122-0667.

Introduction:sexual desire disorder is a persistent or recurrent deficiency (or absence) of sexual fantasies / thoughts and / or desire or receptivity to sexualactivity, which causes personal distress. Being a largely subjective experience, sexual desire may or may not be accompanied by observable changes in aperson’s sexual behavior. The basis of desire in women involves interactionsbetween multiple sex hormones, neurotransmitters, and a variety of biological, psychosocial, or cultural factors that affect it to a greater or lesser extent. Methodology:the following keywords were searched: climacteric; Sexual dysfunction; Feminine; Physiopathology; menopause; women; sexuality. The bibliographic exploration was carried out in the electronic databasesEBSCO, Elsevier, Interscience, Medline, Ovid, Pubmed, SciELO, Scopus,ScienceDirect (1990 to 2016), Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials(January 01, 2010 to March 31, 2017) As well as printed texts, indexed journalsand recognized medical societies; Trying to find the best evidence on thepathophysiology of the sexual desire disorder in the climacteric. The articleswere analyzed in English and Spanish. Results:we reviewed 108 articles and selected 72, which were directly related to the research topic. Next, we describe the pathophysiology of sexual desiredisorder in women in climacteric, showing the respective bibliographicevidence. Conclusions:low sexual desire in women in climacteric is associated with a decrease in the sexual hormones of both adrenal and ovarian androgens andthe cessation of production of ovarian estrogens; However, the sexual responseis multifactorial and multidimensional, therefore, it depends on biological, psychological and social aspects, rather than on the circulating hormonal load.

Keywords : climacteric; Sexual dysfunction; Feminine; Physiopathology; Menopause; Women; Sexuality.
