Abstract

GONZALEZ-CORDOBA, Marcela et al. NEW RECORDS AND DISTRIBUTION DATA OF TEN SPECIES AND FOUR GENERA OF ELMIDAE (COLEOPTERA: ELMIDAE) OF COLOMBIA. Bol. Cient. Mus. Hist. Nat. Univ. Caldas [online]. 2019, vol.23, n.1, pp.247-260. ISSN 0123-3068.  https://doi.org/10.17151/bccm.2019.23.1.11.

Objectives:

To register the biodiversity of Elmidae in Colombia, especially in the little-known areas of the eastern plains. To provide geographic, taxonomic and visual information for the taxa found.

Methodology:

A total of 37 specimens of the Museum of Entomology at Universidad del Valle (MUSENUV for its acronym in Spanish) and Entomological Collection of the Biology Program at Universidad de Caldas (CEBUC for its acronym in Spanish) were reviewed. Genitalia of everyone were dissected and mounted on plate for identification at the species level with available taxonomic revisions.

Results:

The species catalogued in the Elminae subfamily were: Gyrelmis brunnea Hinton, G. maculata Hinton, G. rufomarginata Hinton, G. thoracica basalis Hinton, Hintonelmis delevei Hinton, H. opis Hinton, H. perfecta (Grouvelle), H. sul Hinton, Holcelmis woodruffi Hinton, Stegoelmis stictoides Spangler, and Epodelmis sp.

Conclusions:

The genera Gyrelmis, Hintonelmis, Holcelmis and Epodelmis are registered for the first time in Colombia with 10 species and one subspecies. The distribution of Stegoelmis andersoni Spangler for the department of Putumayo in the Colombian Amazon region is expanded.

Keywords : Aquatic beetles; Colombia; Neotropic; Elminae.
