Abstract

ORTIZ-MORENO, Martha Lucia  and  CARO-CARO, Clara Inés. Green areas and low-income housing: historic environmental welfare deficit. rev.udcaactual.divulg.cient. [online]. 2025, vol.28, n.1, e2595.  Epub Feb 07, 2024. ISSN 0123-4226.  https://doi.org/10.31910/rudca.v28.n1.2025.2595.

The intervention of entities has been necessary to provide housing for the most vulnerable populations due to the socioeconomic situation. This work aims to analyze social interest housing projects (VIS) and their environmental welfare offer in Villavicencio, one of the most important cities in the Amazorinoquia ecoregion. A structural landscape analysis was carried out in the VIS projects La Madrid and Betty Camacho to achieve this. In this study, satellite images were processed using QGIS 3.18 software and validated with georeferenced photographic records to determine vegetation covers. Landscape metrics analysis was conducted using the LECOS plugin. The perception of well-being was evaluated through content analysis of semi-structured interviews. Biodiversity support was assessed using heat maps of biological records obtained from GBIF. The cover characteristics of these green areas are inadequate for providing important ecosystem services such as supporting biodiversity, providing thermal comfort, or creating recreational spaces for the adjacent community. This scenario is due to the fact that economic interests take precedence over environmental welfare and to serious gaps in territorial planning. Therefore, these results may contribute to future VIS projects in Colombia by prompting a reconsideration of planning criteria that prioritize the supply of ecosystem services and social welfare.
