This article raises a debate about the treatment that has been given in public opinion to the Law 1874 of 2017, which was enacted without consulting the trajectory of educational and pedagogical research on the teaching of Social Sciences and History. Initially, the arguments from which Law 1874 of 2017 was formulated and enacted are presented and analyzed, which seeks to reinstate the compulsory teaching of Colombian History. Subsequently, the dominant discursive matrix in public opinion is identified, which has reiterated the need to reintroduce the teaching of History as a subject within the official curriculum, assuming its disappearance from the school setting. Then, the approaches that have been configured in the country regarding research in the field of Social Sciences and History are presented and from this academic accumulation, the main issues that must be addressed are outlined in order to contribute to the strengthening of this area in the school curriculum.
