Abstract
MARTINEZ-SIERRA, Pedro Daniel. The meanings around family for children without parental care. Rev.latinoam.cienc.soc.niñez juv [online]. 2024, vol.22, n.3, pp.95-115. Epub Jan 29, 2025. ISSN 1692-715X. https://doi.org/10.11600/rlcsnj.22.3.6100.
The meanings of family for orphaned girls and boys, a highly invisible social issue, are analyzed. The causes are multifaceted: abandonment, violence, homicides, femicides, disappearances, human trafficking, natural disasters, diseases, and others. These factors violate the human rights of this population by transgressing one of their fundamental rights: living in a family. In this qualitative study, three girls and three boys aged 8 to 11 years, who lack parental care and are awaiting the resolution of their family situation or adoption by a new family, participated. Drawing and interview techniques were employed to gather their opinions on what they expected from living in a family. These opinions are closely aligned with the nuclear family model, expressing aspirations and desires to be fulfilled as part of it.
Keywords : Without parental care; families; childhood.
