Scientific education is a challenge in terms of comprehensive education for children and adolescents. This research aimed to identify the meaning of scientific education that has been generated through the experiences of a group of students from schools in the Bajo Sinú subregion, located in the department of Córdoba, Colombia. This was a qualitative study that used a hermeneutic phe-nomenological design with participation from 25 adolescents. The data was collected through semistructured interviews and group conversations and was then organized and analyzed using the content analysis technique. The findings identify adolescents’ perceptions of the conservative viewpoints held by science and society, the deficiencies faced by the educational system in terms of connecting science with students’ social realities and the importance of student research groups to develop their scientific capabilities.
