Abstract

LENCINA, Rocío  and  LEMIEZ, GRISELDA. Memories of search and reconnection with indigenous identity. Dialogues between autobiographies and local history. memorias [online]. 2024, n.54, pp.83-117.  Epub Sep 30, 2024. ISSN 1794-8886.  https://doi.org/10.14482/memor.54.987.753.

In the present work, we analyze scenes recovered from the autobiographical memories of five indigenous women belonging to the Mapuche people who currently reside in the district of Olavarría (Buenos Aires, Argentina). This cut accounts for those moments in which the actors have expressed "becoming aware" of their indigenous being, and it aims to make the meanings that this process of identification and remembrance entails visible in the present and at the local level. Articulating the anthropological and historical analysis, we inscribe these narratives in broader scenarios in which they are inserted, emphasizing the dialogue of these local indigenous memories with the hegemonic Olavarrian imaginary that, even in the present, exalts their European migrant and mining character, while reproducing denialist and racist speeches.
