Abstract

GELVEZ MUNOZ, María Camila et al. The study of the psychophysiological response associated with an emotional conflict test in young university students. Psychol. av. discip. [online]. 2025, vol.19, n.2, pp.51-62.  Epub Nov 11, 2025. ISSN 1900-2386.  https://doi.org/10.21500/19002386.6797.

The importance of emotions lies in understanding human behavior, given that there are physiological mechanisms that intervene when a subject must resolve an emotionally charged conflict. In this context, the present research aimed to study the psychophysiological response associated with an emotional conflict test in young university students. Heart rate monitoring will reveal changes in conflict resolution and conflict resolution skills. The sample consisted of 36 university students (Me = 19.3 ± 1.9), who did not report heart disease or PAS consumption. To collect the information, two modalities were assigned in the execution: evocation of the verbalized response and evocation of the non-spoken-mentalized responses. The PowerLab® PL3508-8/35 instrument was used for cardiac recording. The results revealed statistically significant differences between the group and the evocation modality, with greater cardiac variability, reflecting states of greater sympathetic acceleration in the verbalizing group. It is concluded that the physiological parameter reveals significant differences in the performance of the emotional conflict task, and that the verbalization modality generates a possible manifestation of loss of the executive component of inhibitory control.
