Objective.

To explain the historical process of the creation of the main and secondary attributes of social identity of the elementary and secondary school teachers in Colombia between 1811 and 1953 from the perspective of the discourse of the Nation-State.

Methodology.

It is a historiographic research based on the use of primary sources within the framework of methodological collectivism.

Results.

The social identity of elementary and secondary teachers in Colombia was a complex combination of psychological, ethical, political, and intellectual aspects.

Conclusion.

The social identity of the teacher was established by the State with the aim of conferring a positive and constructive image of the social paladin of order.
