This article presents the results of a study aimed at analyzing the origins and historical evolution of the mathematics teacher training program at the Pedagogical and Technological University of Colombia. Case study was the qualitative research method used for collecting data by means of interviews and document analysis. The program was the first of its kind in the country, which experienced relocations of headquarters and temporary halts. This text raises the professional profiles of teachers at different time periods as well as the curricula and implicit characteristics of the work performed by teachers. The curricula have been updated in accordance with trends in mathematics and official standards. The profiles have changed, ranging from teachers for primary and secondary education to teachers for higher education. A gap was found between mathematical training and didactic and pedagogical training; such aspect has been corrected since the nineties.
