Abstract

OCHOA RIVERA, Camilo. CONFLICTING WATER USES: A SEARCH OF SOLUTIONS. Dyna rev.fac.nac.minas [online]. 2007, vol.74, n.152, pp.51-61. ISSN 0012-7353.

Confrontations coming from water allocation and water use have lead in recent years to an increasing concern on the application of tools and techniques to solve the mentioned conflicts. This topic is the core of the paper, which is related to a couple of water resources systems placed in the semi-arid basin of the Turia River ( Valencia - Spain ), where water represents a high-value good. The impact of the hydraulic and spatial transformations of an irrigation system on the energy production of a hydropower plant is analyzed, considering that water for both, irrigation system and hydropower plant, is derived from the same source. A scenario of conjunctive management for irrigation system and hydropower plant is searched by applying some techniques based on assessments of energy production and economic benefits.

Keywords : Hydropower; Irrigation Systems; Water Conflicts.
